Larapinta Trek 2024
Larapinta Trek 2024
Story
Hello! Thank you for supporting our trek!
We're walking the lovely Larapinta Trail – one of the great walks in Australia – in order to fundraise for the Australian and New Zealand Eye Foundation (ANZEF). ANZEF is providing financial support to Indigenous doctors and medical students to become ophthalmologists. We have minimal services in regional Australia and New Zealand, and require more ophthalmologists and services in these areas.
We're excited to do this trek and fundraise to help provide equal healthcare options for all Australians and New Zealanders.
Thank you for your support in this cause in providing invaluable funds for helping improve services and create the next generation of Indigenous ophthalmologists.
Cheers, Dr Nisha Sachdev and team

Australian and New Zealand Eye Foundation - ANZEF (The Royal AU and NZ College of Ophthalmologists)
The Australian and New Zealand Eye Foundation (ANZEF) is the philanthropic arm of The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (RANZCO), which trains ophthalmologists across Australia and New Zealand.
Around the world, 2.2 billion people have vision impairment, including at least 1 billion for whom vision loss could have been prevented or is yet to be addressed. Tragically, many people are blind or have vision loss because they could not get access to the care they needed.
Driven by the belief that everyone deserves access to excellent eye care when they need it and regardless of where you live, or your cultural or socio-economic background, we seek to address the significant eye health needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, Māori, and Pasifika Peoples, as well as those living in rural, remote and under-resourced areas in the Asia-Pacific region.
Our projects and partnerships help to improve eye health equity and access for communities through education and advocacy, with the aim of preventing avoidable blindness and vision loss. We focus on upskilling local eye health workforces as well as growing and supporting the First Nations ophthalmologist workforce. For example, in Australia there is currently only one Aboriginal ophthalmologist and to have population parity there needs to be more than 40!
Your donations will support better eye health outcomes for those where the need is greatest.
